“Oh, no. My sonic screwdriver. I loved my sonic screwdriver.”

The Twelfth Doctor - Peter Capaldi

Screen-used prop from Doctor Who Series Ten, Episode 5, "Oxygen".

The Twelfth Doctor's "Oxygen" Sonic Screwdriver

The TARDIS created a new sonic screwdriver for the Twelfth Doctor in the Series Ten opener, this one sporting a blue design similar to the exterior of the TARDIS itself.

Stephen Cooper made the concept designs which were made to feel like an actual surgical tool, and Rubbertoe Props' Nick Robatto was once again called upon to build the practical filming props.

This particular "crushable" stunt prop was assembled from a combination of pieces harvested from a Character Options replica toy, items used on the hero props, as well as a middle “core” of green floral foam covered in thin aluminum so that the prop could be easily “crushed” on screen.

Originally four of these "crushable" stunt props were created for filming along with two additional static, solid resin "bent" versions of the prop.
