“Oh yeah, I’m over screwdrivers. They spoil the line of your jacket. These days I’m all about wearable technology.”

One of only three pairs used during production. The sunglasses themselves are an off-the-shelf Ray-Bans pair, which is actually one of their most iconic styles, the RB2140 Original Wayfarer. These were modified by removing the Ray-Ban logos from the side of the arms and the top corner of the lenses.

After The Doctor gave his previous sonic screwdriver to Davros in the Series Nine two-parter; “The Magician’s Apprentice”/”The Witch's Familiar”, he moved on to “wearable technology” these sonic shades were introduced as the new main Sonic Device. They were used throughout Series Nine by both The Doctor and Clara Oswald until they were replaced at the end of the series with a new sonic screwdriver design. 

They did however continue to make appearances throughout Series Ten up until in the Twelfth Doctor’s final story, "Twice Upon a Time", where they were also worn by David Bradley as the First Doctor. At the end of that story, both The Doctors sonic sunglasses and sonic screwdriver were lost, having fallen from the pockets of the newly regenerated Thirteenth Doctor's pockets while dangling from a crashing TARDIS.
